Cumberland Md 3

As you ride the C & O route eastern out of Cumberland there is a nice park that has a canal boat on display. My bike is parked on the walkway behind the boat to provide a kind of size prespective. It was longer than I expected and pretty narrow but afrter seeing the size of the actual canl locks down the trail it all made a lot more sense.

This is a preserved section of the C & O canal and path looking west back into Cumberland. You can see that fountain that Ned and I posed with outside the visitors center in the distance under the overpass.

There were huge flocks of geese landing nearby in a water area I could not see but could hear a lot of goose noises going on.
This was a lucky shot because the camera I use is pretty simple and it took a few tries to figure out how to get the camera moving with the flock and keep it in focus.

  1. Hi Tony,
I just noted that you are back on the road. I can understand that miss Sassy won't let you go without supervision. Joan already told me "no more mountains". I haven't decided yet what I will do next year. We have been spending a lot of time in Chicago since my Tony's baby boy arrived. Its our first grandchild. Well, I'll keep following your progress. Enjoy and tell Ned I said hello.

  2. Hans--thanks for the communique. Congrats on grandson--enjoy the hell out of him.

If you are looking for something to do next year , consider this.
Ride the bike path to Cincinnati, follow the Ohio River to Cairo Il, cross the Mississippi, follow it to New Orleans, follow the Gulf Coast to Florida and then follow the Fla. coast to Key West.

There are very few mountains along this route, from Memphis to New orleans is the Mississippi Delta which is flatter than your sidewalk. The Gulf/Fla. Coast does not have any bumps that I ever heard of.

Now, nothing may come of this for any one of several reasons but I am kicking it around.
I'll get up to Celina to see you one of these days and maybe we can chat about this over an iced tea or whatever you are drinking these days.
    Tony
